The Pakistan Mini Mazda Association has announced a nationwide strike after alleging that the government failed to fulfill its commitments regarding the transporters’ demands.
A delegation of the association, led by its Central President Tanveer Ahmed Jatt, met with the President of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) to discuss issues affecting the transport sector.
During the meeting, transporters demanded the immediate withdrawal of the recent increase in vehicle transfer fees. They also called for legal action to be taken against the actual owners of non-custom-paid goods, rather than against the transport vehicles carrying them. In addition, they demanded the reversal of the 200% increase in token tax.
The LCCI president expressed support for the transporters’ demands, stating that the increase in taxes and fees has placed an additional financial burden on the transport industry.
Tanveer Ahmed Jatt said the association had previously called off a strike after receiving assurances from the Punjab government. However, he claimed that the promised measures had not been implemented.
He added that, following consultations with goods transport organizations from all provinces, the association had decided to resume its protest. If their demands are not met, the association plans to launch a nationwide wheel-jam strike, warning that the protest movement could be expanded further.
