The initiative aims to modernise the passport application process, enabling applicants to complete biometric verification quickly, securely, and from home.
Under the new system, citizens can verify their fingerprints using the NADRA Pak-ID mobile application. “If a user’s fingerprints cannot be scanned accurately, the app’s facial recognition feature can be used as an alternative,” a spokesperson said.
To begin the process, applicants must first create an application on the online passport portal. When prompted for fingerprint verification, they log into the Pak-ID app, navigate to the biometric verification section, select the “Online Passport” option, and enter their passport tracking ID and National Identity Card number.
The app then guides them step by step to complete fingerprint or facial verification.
Once the biometric verification is successfully completed, the system displays a confirmation message and redirects applicants back to the passport portal, where they can complete the remaining steps and submit their application online.
