Pakistan has imposed a temporary ban on its citizens seeking employment in Uzbekistan following reports of exploitation and mistreatment of Pakistani workers in the Central Asian nation.
The Bureau of Immigration and Overseas Employment (BIOE) issued the directive after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs raised concerns about workers not receiving their wages and enduring poor working conditions.
The ban affects the issuance of “protectors” for Uzbekistani employment, a required stamp placed on passports by the government for those traveling abroad for work. The notification, which has been sent to all Protectorate Offices across the country, mandates an immediate halt to the processing of such stamps. This decision applies to both new applications and those that had been previously approved.
In exceptional cases, the Protectorate of Immigrants may send an emergency request to the Pakistani embassy for approval, provided the necessary documentation and employer verification are completed. The protector will only be issued once the embassy has granted its approval.
