Pakistan hopes US-Taliban talks may soon resume: Maleeha Lodhi

UNITED NATIONS: Ambassador to the United Nations Maleeha Lodhi said that Pakistan has expressed the hope that the US-Taliban talks would soon resume.
In a series of tweets on Thursday, Maleeha Lodhi said, “Pakistan’s hope that the suspension of the peace talks is only a pause and will resume soon as the alternative is a surge in violence, which could push Afghanistan into an even more turbulent phase.”

Speaking in a debate on the situation in Afghanistan, “Participating in the UN Security Council debate on Afghanistan I said that Pakistan urges an early resumption of the Afghan peace talks especially as the principles of an eventual agreement seemed to be within grasp.”

She said that Pakistan had always condemned violence and called for all sides to exercise restraint and to remain committed to the peace process out of its belief that there was no military solution to the Afghan conflict.
Earlier on 8th September, US President Donald Trump called off peace negotiations with the Taliban after they claimed the responsibility for killing 12 people in an attack in Afghanistan.
