The government of Pakistan has been collecting Rs 107.12 in taxes, duties, and margins on each liter of petrol and Rs 104.59 on one liter of high-speed diesel, a local publication reported citing official documents.
A levy of Rs 70 per liter has been imposed on both petrol and high-speed diesel, marking the highest-ever fuel levy in the country’s history.
As per the breakdown:
Customs duty on high-speed diesel stands at Rs 15.78 per liter.
Dealers’ commission is Rs 8.64 per liter on both petrol and high-speed diesel.
Oil Marketing Companies’ (OMCs) margin is Rs 7.87 per liter for both fuels.
Inland Freight Equalization Margin (IFEM) is Rs 5.33 per liter on petrol and Rs 2.30 per liter on diesel.
Currently, no sales tax is being charged on petrol and diesel.
The ex-refinery price of petrol before taxes and duties is Rs 148.51 per liter, while the final price for consumers is fixed at Rs 255.63 per liter.
For high-speed diesel, the ex-refinery price is Rs 154.06 per liter, while the retail price is set at Rs 258.64 per liter.
