Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance announces 15% fare hike

The Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has announced a 15% increase in freight charges following the government’s latest increase in petroleum product prices.

Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, Alliance President Malik Shehzad Awan urged the government to abolish toll taxes, withholding tax, and what he described as unnecessary traffic fines, arguing that transport operators are receiving no meaningful relief despite rising operating costs.

Awan said government policies have forced many transporters to park their vehicles because they can no longer operate profitably. He called on the authorities to provide immediate support to the transport sector to help offset mounting financial pressures.

Expressing concern over the increase in fuel prices, he said the higher cost of petroleum products has placed the freight transport industry under significant strain.

The announcement follows the government’s decision to raise the prices of petrol, high-speed diesel, and kerosene oil. The revised fuel prices are scheduled to remain in effect from July 18 to July 20.
