A groundbreaking gold discovery in Attock, Pakistan, has been reported, with reserves valued at Rs800 billion. Former Punjab Minister for Mines and Minerals, Ibrahim Hassan Murad, claimed that the Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP) has confirmed the existence of 2.8 million tolas of gold along a 32-kilometer stretch in the region.
Murad, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), described the discovery as a significant step in unlocking Punjab’s mineral wealth, citing the extensive research conducted by the GSP, which involved sampling 127 locations.

Murad expressed hope that this find would revitalize the economy and create future opportunities for generations to come. However, it is important to note that the gold’s estimated value, approximately $287 million in international markets, has not been independently verified.
The current Punjab Minister for Mines and Minerals, Sardar Sher Ali Gorchani, confirmed the discovery, noting that the GSP’s fieldwork over the past year validated the gold reserves. He added that the provincial government plans to hire Nespak and other firms to further evaluate the reserves’ true value, which he estimates at Rs600-700 billion.
To prevent illegal mining and theft, the provincial government has implemented Section 144 in the area. Local residents have previously gathered gold particles from the region, especially during winter when water levels in the Indus River drop. Gorchani also shared that an auction for the gold reserves will take place within a month, with auction rules already outlined and a committee led by the Attock deputy commissioner to oversee the process. The rules will be officially approved by the Punjab cabinet in an upcoming meeting.
