RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has asserted that Pakistan desires to maintain the tradition of bilateral engagement and wish for long term and multi-domain enduring relationship with United States.
The Army Chief made these remarks during a meeting with US Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas West, who called on him, in Rawalpindi on Friday, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
During the meeting, matters of mutual interest, the current security situation in Afghanistan, and bilateral cooperation in various fields were discussed, the military’s media wing added.
General Bajwa reiterated the need for global convergence on Afghanistan for avoiding looming humanitarian crisis and coordinated efforts for economic uplift of the Afghan people.
The visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan’s role in Afghan situation, special efforts for border management, role in regional stability and pledged to play his part for further improvement in diplomatic cooperation with Pakistan at all levels.
West, who replaced Zalmay Khalilzad as special envoy to Afghanistan, arrived in Pakistan earlier this week to participate in a moot on Afghanistan attended by special envoys of China and Russia. A delegation led by Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi also participated in the moot.
