ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday strongly condemned the ongoing Israeli aggression against Lebanon, denouncing the strikes that have claimed numerous innocent lives and caused widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure.
The Foreign Office issued the statement after reports of mass fatalities in Beirut and other parts of Lebanon due to continued Israeli bombardment. “Such actions undermine international efforts to establish peace and stability in the region and constitute a blatant violation of international law and fundamental humanitarian principles,” said FO spokesperson Tahir Andrabi.
The condemnation comes amid heightened regional tensions. Israeli Prime Minister had earlier rejected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s proposal to include Lebanon in a two-week ceasefire deal, insisting that Lebanon was excluded and that Israel needed to “change the reality” there. Since then, Israel has intensified its strikes across Lebanese territory.
Pakistan called upon the international community to take urgent and concrete steps to halt Israeli aggression, stressing that unchecked violence risked further destabilising the Middle East. “Pakistan reiterates its unwavering solidarity with the Government and people of Lebanon during this difficult time and supports Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its peace and stability,” the statement added.
The development comes as Iran and the United States are scheduled to meet in Islamabad on Friday, April 9, for ceasefire talks — a diplomatic effort seen as critical to easing tensions across the region.
