ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Azerbaijan have agreed to enhance cooperation for the development of economic relations between the two countries.
In a meeting with Azerbaijan Ambassador Ali Alizada today, Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser said Pak- Azerbaijan Parliamentary friendship group can be a forum to enhance these relations.
He also stressed the need to reinvigorate the Parliamentary Union of ECO Member states, according to a press statement.
The Speaker said Azerbaijan is an important country in Asia can play its role in OIC and other regional forums to raise the plight of people of Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the Kashmir issue is a flashpoint of South Asia and may trigger escalation if not peacefully settled as per the aspiration people of Kashmir.
Touching upon the issue of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Speaker said Pakistan has always supported Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity in the settlement of the conflict over Nagorno Karabakh in accordance with the UN resolutions.
Referring to the CPEC, the Speaker said both of the countries can acquire a bigger volume of trade in the upcoming future. He suggested closer interaction between the Commerce and Agriculture Committees of both the legislatures for further enhancing mutual trade and economic ties.
Ali Alizada said his country also attaches immense importance to its relations with Pakistan. He said his country wholeheartedly supports Pakistan’s stance on Kashmir.
Azerbaijan stands with Kashmiris in their struggle for the right to self-determination. He expressed gratitude to the government of Pakistan for extending diplomatic support on issue of Nagorno Karabakh, he added.
