A noticeable rise in dog bite cases has been reported at various public and private hospitals across Karachi. According to hospital officials, more than 3,040 dog bite cases have been recorded in the city so far this year.
Officials at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre said that over 700 patients have been brought in for dog bite treatment since 1 January, while Civil Hospital Karachi has reported around 1,000 cases during the same period. In addition, a private hospital located on Stadium Road has treated at least 20 dog bite victims.
Hospital authorities stated that despite public awareness and precautionary measures, the growing number of dog bite incidents is becoming a serious concern.
Meanwhile, First Lady Asifa Bhutto Zardari has strongly condemned the killing of stray dogs. She expressed anger over the actions taken by local authorities in Karachi against stray animals.
In a post on her official X (formerly Twitter) account, Asifa Bhutto said she was deeply disturbed by the manner in which dogs were being killed.
It is worth noting that local authorities have poisoned and killed hundreds of stray dogs in Karachi in an effort to control the increasing stray population and prevent attacks on citizens.
During the operation, the bodies of dead dogs were found in various parts of the city and were later collected and disposed of by municipal staff.
