GILGIT BALTISTAN: More than 13 people were killed as a landslide engulfed a passenger bus carrying 18 travelers on Gilgit-Skardu Road.
According to sources, the bus was going to Skardu from Rawalpindi when the mishap took place near the Tangos Pari area. Rescue teams and security personnel have arrived at the scene and launched an operation to remove the rubble.
They recovered 13 bodies and one injured under the rubble. However, rescue officials fear the number of casualties may rise.
A spokesperson for the GB government said 18 passengers were on board the bus traveling from Rawalpindi to Skardu when it met the accident. The bodies and injured people have been shifted to the hospital.
Six victims have been identified, including the driver and conductor. Their bodies have been taken to the District Hospital.
Last year in September at least 27 people, including 10 Pakistan Army soldiers, were killed and more than 15 wounded when a passenger bus rammed into a mountain in Babusar Pass as it lost control on the road.
The passenger bus had been traveling from Skardu to Rawalpindi when it crashed into a mountain while making a turn at Naran’s Gati Das area, killing dozens and injuring several aboard.
