NEW DELHI: Indian army chief General Bipin Rawat on Thursday made political remarks saying “leaders are not those who lead people in inappropriate directions to carry out arson and violence” after the protests against the controversial citizenship law.
Indian opposition parties slammed the Indian army chief’s for criticisng the anti-CAA protesters, and said as the highest officer uniform he has “breached the limit of his institutional role.”

General Rawat’s political remarks drew sharp criticism even from some retired and even serving military officers. who accused him of dragging the army into political discussions over the most controversial citizenship law.
