Challenges have emerged in issuing e-challans due to only 69 operational traffic signals across Karachi.
According to DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah, out of Karachi’s 89 traffic signals, only 69 are functioning. In comparison, Mumbai has 569 LED traffic signals, while New Delhi has 2,160 operational signals.
The DIG Traffic stated that the large number of non-functional signals in Karachi is hindering the effectiveness of the e-challan system.
The city requires 400 modern traffic signals worth Rs1.25 billion.
Peer Muhammad Shah added that under the new project, 400 automated traffic signals will be installed, and one state-of-the-art signal has already been set up at PIDC.
