RAWALPINDI: At least one person and seven others sustained injuries after a blast in a parked auto-rickshaw at Rawalpindi’s Pir Wadhai bus station today (Friday).
According to details, the injured people were admitted to Holy Family Hospital for medical treatment. City police spokesperson, Sub-Inspector Sajjadul Hassan informed that the nature of the blast is still being determined, adding that the possibility of terrorism could not be ruled out as yet.
“The personnel of the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) and forensic experts of other law enforcement agencies have reached the incident’s site and sealed the area for carrying out an investigation into the incident. A final decision regarding the nature of the blast will be announced soon,” he added.
The windows and mirrors of multiple shops nearby shattered following the explosion. The area has been cordoned off for the public and evidence is being collected. The impact of the blast was felt 25km away from the explosion site.
The deceased person is identified as Muhammad Afzal, whereas, the wounded persons include Ibrahim, resident of Ziaul Haq Colony, Alauddin, resident of Quetta, Zafeer, Bilal, a resident of Dhoke Darzian, Abdul Rehman, a resident of Ziaul Haq Colony, Qasim, a resident of Pir Wadahi and Abdul Mannan, a resident of Bhakkar.
RPO Rawalpindi Imran Ahmer, CPO Ahsan Younus and SP Rai Mazhar visited the wounded persons to inquire about their health condition.
