On December 6, 1992, extremist Hindus demolished the Babri Mosque in Ayodhya. The sad incident happened 33 years ago when the extremist attackers, who belonged to the BJP, RSS, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, and Bajrang Dal, targeted the Babri Mosque with axes, hammers, and other tools.
During the mosque’s demolition, there were strong protests and resistance from the Muslim community.
The resulting riots led to the martyrdom of over 2,000 Muslims and left thousands injured.
L.K. Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi continued to incite extremist Hindus to demolish the Babri Mosque. A 2009 investigation report by Justice Manmohan Singh implicated 68 people, including BJP leaders.
According to Malloy Krishna, the head of the Indian Intelligence Bureau, Hindu extremist organizations had planned the demolition of the Babri Mosque ten months prior to the actual event.
Although a case was filed regarding the demolition of the Babri Mosque, the Indian Supreme Court acquitted all accused involved in the demolition on November 9, 2019.
Pakistan Expresses Deep Concern
Pakistan expresses deep concern over the hoisting of the flag on the temple built at the site of the Babri Mosque.
Regarding the demolition of the mosque, which was built during the Mughal era, Human Rights Watch stated that the desecration of the Babri Mosque was a serious violation of international principles and the religious rights of minorities.
It further stated that since 1992, 500 mosques have been demolished and countless shrines razed in the state of Gujarat.
