Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik has warned that oil prices could double if the conflict continues, with direct consequences for the public and the economy.
Speaking on a private TV programme, Malik said ongoing tensions could disrupt global oil supply, leading not only to higher prices but also potential supply shortages.
He stated that the government has decided to import oil from alternative sources to tackle a possible crisis, including the United States, African countries, Libya, and Nigeria.
However, he clarified that shipments under the new supply chain will take time, meaning short-term pressure may persist.
The minister said the government is closely monitoring the situation and is making every effort to minimise the impact on the public.
According to experts, if the conflict prolongs, it could lead to a rise not only in oil prices but also in the cost of essential commodities, raising fears of a fresh wave of inflation.
