LARKANA: The preliminary postmortem report of Nosheen Kazmi, a medical student of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBU) Larkana, revealed that the student was died by “hanging”, a private media outlet reported on Thursday.
The media outlet, while quoting sources, reported that the initial post-mortem report also found no marks of violence on the victim’s body. The final post-mortem report of Nosheen Kazmi will be released after the lab report, said sources.
The incident
A day earlier, Nosheen Kazmi – fourth year student of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBU) Larkana – allegedly committed suicide in her hostel room.
Dr Nosheen Kazmi was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her hostel room with her feet almost touching a table. The police said Kazmi’s roommate returned to the room after more than two hours and found the room locked from inside.
She kept knocking the door but there was no response. The roommate later sneaked from the window and saw Kazmi hanging. A handwritten note has also been recovered from the room.
Larkana SSP Imran Qureshi told the local media that a forensic team collected evidence from the room and the body was later shifted to the university’s teaching hospital for the postmortem.
Dr Namrita Chandani, a student of the Bibi Asifa Dental College, Larkana, was also found dead in her hostel room on September 15, 2019. The student’s father also referred to the case of Dr Namrita’s alleged suicide but he reiterated that it will be early to comment on the cause of her death before the postmortem report.
Examinations postponed
Meanwhile, the university’s administration has postponed the examinations of its affiliated medical colleges following the death of Nosheen Kazmi. The examinations of Chandka, Asifa Dental and Benazir College of Nursing colleges have been postponed.
The examinations of other medical colleges were also postponed. The colleges include the Institute of Pharmacy, Ghulam Muhammad Mehar Medical College Sukkur. The hostel of the Chandka Medical College was closed and the female students have been sent back to their homes.
