A newborn baby has been abducted from the nursery of Lahore General Hospital (LGH). The hospital on Tuesday released footage of the suspected kidnappers.
As per media reports, a resident of Lahore, Muhammad Afzal, filed a complaint at Kot Lakhpat police station about the abduction of his newborn son. Police registered a case under Section 363 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
In his written application, Afzal stated that his wife had given birth to a baby boy on August 30 at around 1:30 am. The newborn was shifted to the nursery ward, where he remained for two days.
On September 1, hospital staff member Ambreen called Afzal to ask if he had collected his child. Afzal said he had not.
When the CCTV footage was reviewed, it showed two women taking the baby without presenting the required card.
The LGH administration has released footage of women suspected of abducting a newborn from the hospital nursery.
The Medical Superintendent (MS) said the identities of those providing information about the suspects would be kept confidential. Informants would also receive appreciation certificates.
Meanwhile, strict action has been taken against several employees for violating standard operating procedures (SOPs). The DMS Emergency has been directed to report directly to the MS.
In violation of the “one patient, one attendant” policy, the security supervisor has been removed from duty. The sister in charge and the ward staff nurse have also been asked to report to the MS office over SOP violations inside the ward.
Principal and MS LGH Professor Farooq Afzal said police were making all-out efforts for the child’s recovery.
