Reuniting once again, the enduring friendship between Ben Affleck and Matt Damon takes center stage in their latest cinematic venture.
Set to collaborate on the upcoming Netflix crime thriller “Animals,” Damon assumes the lead role, while Affleck takes on the directorial responsibilities. The dynamic duo will co-produce the film through their Artists Equity studio, known for last year’s blockbuster drama “Air,” delving into Nike’s collaboration with Michael Jordan.
Scheduled to commence filming in Los Angeles as early as March 2024, “Animals” promises an enthralling experience. Previously titled “Be Gentlemen” and “The Animals of Los Angeles,” the film has now settled on the more succinct “Animals.”
The storyline, as outlined by The Hollywood Reporter, revolves around a mayoral candidate grappling with the kidnapping of his son. Alongside his wife, he must navigate a perilous path, confronting both political and personal adversaries, hinting at a gripping and tumultuous narrative.
Details on the movie’s plot and cast remain scant, with further announcements anticipated. Deadline reports that “Animals” is just one project in a bustling schedule for Damon, who is set to transition seamlessly to the sequel of “The Accountant” after completing filming for this Netflix thriller.
Affleck and Damon’s cinematic partnership has endured since their first collaboration in 1992’s “School Ties.” Their most celebrated work, 1997’s “Good Will Hunting,” earned them an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. While “Animals” marks their latest endeavor, fans fondly remember their roles as fallen angels wreaking havoc in Kevin Smith’s 1999 film “Dogma.” Unfortunately, the movie is currently unavailable online due to an ongoing dispute with Harvey Weinstein over rights ownership, as recounted by Smith.
