ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has announced an additional March fuel cost adjustment (FCA) of Rs3.70 per unit to K-Electric users.
The decision means that Karachi-based private utility will receive an extra amount of Rs5.14 billion from consumers in the upcoming billing month of May. K-Electric had initially requested for an FCA of Rs4.49 per unit, but Nepra approved a Rs3.70 hike.
Meanwhile, Nepra has allowed a 34 paisa per unit increase in power tariff under the monthly fuel charge adjustments for the month of March. However, this decision is not applicable to K-Electric consumers.
Nepra conducted a public hearing on Wednesday at its headquarters regarding the monthly fuel charges of Discos for the month of March, which was presided over by Nepra Chairman Tauseef H Farooqui. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA-G) submitted a petition to Nepra seeking an increase of Rs1.17 per unit under the head of fuel charge adjustments (FCA). However, Nepra rejected CPPA’s demand for a Rs1.71 per unit hike in electricity rates and instead allowed a 34 paisa increase.
Nepra stated that it will release its detailed decision after thoroughly examining the data later. This decision is likely to impact consumers in Pakistan and raise concerns about the rising cost of electricity in the country.
