NEPRA approves increase of Rs7.90 paise in price of electricity

ISLAMABAD: The National Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved an increase in the price of electricity by Rs7.90 per unit. The increase in the price of electricity was made in the context of fuel adjustment.

According to details, NEPRA today heard the Central Power Purchasing Agency’s (CPPA) request for monthly fuel price adjustment. NEPRA said that the increase in electricity prices was in line with the May monthly fuel adjustment.

The Central Power Purchasing Agency said that 8.80 percent of electricity was generated from furnace oil during May at Rs 33.67 per unit. 10 percent from local gas and 22.89 percent from imported LNG.

It is to be noted that the energy crisis is still prevailing in the country. The power shortfall has reached 5,217 MW which had gone up to 7,000 MW during the last month.

Yesterday, the sources said that the total demand for electricity in the country is 27,000 MW and the total power generation is 21,783 MW due to which load shedding is increasing.
