Fake News: NDMA says UK aid not being sold in Sindh

The Sindh Government and NDMA on Sunday termed news circulating on social media claiming that UK aid is being sold in Sindh as fake news, saying Pakistan hasn’t received any aid from United Kingdom consisting of flour bags.

A picture of a flour bag with “UK aid” printed on it was being shared on social media, and several Twitter users claimed that the bags were part of the aid Pakistan received from the UK and was being sold in the stores of Karachi.

However, it was later noted that this picture was from 2014.

In a statement released on NDMA Pakistan official Twitter handle, NDMA clarified that the story was based on a “fabricated” social media post.

“Clarification: There is no authenticity in the news circulating on SM about selling of flourbags received from UK. As Govt of Pakistan & NDMApak has not received any aid from United Kingdom containing/consisting of flour bags.”

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister clarified in a tweet on his official account, saying that the story was based on a “fabricated” social media post.

“This is a fabricated social media post that has been circulating. The #UK is not a partner in this program & has not provided wheat flour. Politically motivated propaganda is being spread to undermine, discredit relief work & to divert attention from the genuine service.”
