As another heatwave begins across Pakistan, including Karachi, clouds are once again preparing to bring rainfall. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert regarding upcoming rains across the country.
According to NDMA, from September 26 to October 1, most parts of the country will experience thunderstorms and rain.
The NDMA stated that several areas in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir could witness strong winds and thunderstorms. Meanwhile, parts of Sindh are expected to receive intermittent rain between September 26 and September 28.
Heavy rainfall may lead to landslides in mountainous regions such as Murree, Galyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, potentially disrupting road networks and causing road closures.
All relevant departments have been directed to keep emergency response teams on alert, ensure rapid response to any emergencies, mobilize resources, and make necessary machinery available in areas at risk.
NDMA has also instructed local authorities to keep the public informed with timely weather forecasts, advisories, and alerts. They have emphasized taking precautionary measures and ensuring the availability of machinery in areas prone to landslides to deal with potential road closures effectively.
