KARACHI: A judicial magistrate in Karachi on Friday sent PPP lawmaker from Sindh Jam Awais Khan Jokhio on a three-day remand to police for his alleged involvement in the murder of Nazim Jokhio in Malir’s Memon Goth area.
During the hearing, the investigation officer informed the court that the suspect had surrendered to the police, after which the judge ordered to present a progress report in the case at the next hearing and granted a three-day remand to the police.
Jam Awais Khan ‘surrendered’ to the Karachi police after an hours-long sit-in by the family of the deceased on the National Highway. Nazim Sajawal Jokhio’s tortured body was found at Jam Awais’ farmhouse in Malir’s Jam Goth, according to Memon Goth SHO Khalid Abbasi.
The victim’s brother, Afzal Jokhio, had accused MPA Awais and MNA Jam Abdul Karim of being involved in his brother’s murder. Relatives as well as members of the Jokhio community had initially staged a sit-in with the body on main National Highway near Ghaghar Phatak.
Later, Memon Goth police had registered a case against the MPA and others on charges of killing the 27-year-old victim after he tried to prevent the lawmaker’s guests from hunting houbara bustard in Thatta district.
Besides the PPP MPA, Niaz Salar – private secretary of MNA Jam Karim – and their employees Ahmed Shoro, Hyder Ali and Mahar Ali have been nominated in the murder case. An eight-member investigation team headed by Malir SSP Irfan Bahadur has been formed to probe the case.
“Our protest will continue till the cruel landlords are arrested,” said Afzal, the victim’s brother. Nazim got into a verbal spat with the man in the car who snatched his cellphone. Nazim then made another video that went viral on social media.
CM assures justice
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah visited the residence of Nazim Jokhio in Achar Salar, Malir, to meet the family of the deceased and express condolences, said a statement issued on Friday.
The chief minister assured that the family will get justice in the case. He said he had asked the police to facilitate the deceased’s family in getting the FIR registered as per their wish.
The CM was accompanied by provincial ministers Saeed Ghani, Imtiaz Sheikh, Sajid Jokhio and MPA Riaz Shah Shirazi.
