ISLAMABAD: Nausheen Javed Amjad – a 22-grade officer – was appointed as the new chairperson of the Federal Board of Revenue today (Monday).
The federal cabinet has approved the appointment of Nausheen Javed as the FBR Chairperson after circulating a summary in this regard. Shabbar Zaidi was removed from his position as the honorary chief of the revenue body in the summary.
According to an FBR spokesperson, in the absence of the former FBR chief Shabbar Zaidi, Nausheen Javed was working as an acting chairperson of the department.
It is worth mentioning here that Shabbar Zaidi had gone on indefinite leave due to health issues.
Earlier in February, Shabbar Zaidi rejected speculation about his resignation and said that he had been unable to perform his duties due to ill health.
In this regard, Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh said that the FBR chairman was unwell and on a long vacation.
He further said, “If Shabbar Zaidi does not recover then we will look for a replacement. His return would be determined by the doctor.”
