The martyrdom anniversary of Nishan-e-Haider Captain Colonel Sher Khan Shaheed, who set a great example of courage, bravery, and valor in the Kargil battle, is being commemorated today with great devotion and respect.
Captain Colonel Sher Khan Shaheed was commissioned into the Pakistan Army in November 1992 and became part of the Sindh Regiment in 1995. In January 1998, on his own request, he volunteered to serve on the Line of Control, where he was posted to the Northern Light Infantry.
On June 28, 1999, the Indian Army launched a full-scale attack on the Dras sector of Kargil, but under Captain Sher Khan’s leadership, only 14 soldiers gave a fitting reply to the enemy and uprooted their foothold.
On July 5, 1999, Captain Colonel Sher Khan Shaheed sacrificed his life while fighting against the enemy. He continued to face the enemy until his last breath, and even at the time of martyrdom, his finger was on the trigger of his gun.
On the martyrdom of Captain Colonel Sher Khan, Field Marshal Asim Munir, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Services Chiefs, and the armed forces paid tribute. In a statement issued by ISPR, it was said that showing bravery while facing severe challenges reflects the finest traditions of the Pakistan Army. Captain Colonel Sher Khan Shaheed made an eternal sacrifice while defending the country’s integrity.
