The Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) continued its protest sit-ins over the Parachinar crisis on Monday, marking the seventh consecutive day of demonstrations. These protests have caused significant traffic disruptions across Karachi, severely affecting daily life and leading to road closures throughout the city.
Despite statements from the government, including Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah’s promise to take action if public inconvenience worsened, and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab’s comments that the sit-ins were intended to disrupt business and daily routines, the situation remains unresolved. The protests have affected residents’ ability to move freely, causing disruptions to businesses, and weddings, and even leading to missed flights and train schedules.
On Sunday, PPP leader Shazia Marri suggested that the protesters consider holding their sit-ins in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa instead of Karachi, but no progress has been made in reopening the blocked roads.
Currently, MWM protesters are occupying 14 key locations across the city. MA Jinnah Road and Numaish Chowrangi remain closed, and parts of Shahrah-e-Pakistan are blocked near Ayesha Manzil and Ancholi. The National Highway near Malir Flyover is also affected, along with multiple locations such as Golimar, Five Star Chowrangi, Powerhouse Chowrangi, and KDA Flats in Surjani. Additionally, Abul Hasan Ispahani Road, University Road near Safari Park, and Kamran Chowrangi in Gulistan-e-Jauhar have experienced major disruptions.
