Pakistan Rights Movement (PRM) Chairman Mushtaq Ahmed Khan has described Jamaat-e-Islami as a “wealthy party of the poor,” claiming that the party has billions of rupees in resources.

Speaking to Times of Karachi correspondent Khizar Azam, Mushtaq Ahmed said that in the 1970s, people used to describe the Pakistan Muslim League as a “poor party of the rich,” meaning that although it included wealthy individuals and landlords, they did not contribute financially.

Drawing a comparison, he said that Jamaat-e-Islami could be described as a “wealthy party of the poor,” as it has offices across the country and significant organizational resources.

He questioned why, despite having a nationwide organizational structure, the party has not been able to achieve greater electoral success.
