SRINAGAR: Indian forces have killed four youth and apprehended several mourners during Muharram processions in occupied Kashmir on Saturday.
Several mourners sustained injuries during an alleged police assault while they tried to cover a Muharram procession, and residents claim police used pellets during these encounters.
The Kashmir Media Service (KMS) imposed strict restrictions. The occupying authorities had tightened restrictions in Srinagar, Badgam, Baramulla and other areas to stop people from taking out Muharram processions.
Lal Chowk, the valley’s commercial center, and adjoining areas of Srinagar were completely sealed. Troops and police personnel were deployed across IoK, who blocked main roads by putting up barricades.
However, defying restrictions, people tried to take out Muharram processions in Srinagar and other areas, with mourners holding banners reading slogans like ‘Free Kashmir’.
Meanwhile, Indian troops martyred four Kashmiri youth in Shopian district, on Friday. According to Kashmir Media Service, troops martyred the youth during a cordon and search operation in the Kiloora area of the district.
