KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Senator Mian Muhammad Ateeq Shaikh has tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday.
A spokesman for the Senator said that Ateeq Shaikh underwent a medical examination at a private hospital, where was tested positive. The spokesman further said doctors have declared Shaikh’s condition as satisfactory and he has been advised to self-isolate at his home.
On Monday, MQM leader and former provincial minister Sindh Muhammad Adil Siddiqui passed away due to complications caused by the novel COVID-19. Adil Siddiqui who had arrived in Islamabad earlier this month was admitted to hospital after contracting COVID-19.
The politician was on a ventilator at a private hospital in Karachi, where he was pronounced dead today by the medical team. Recently, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had tested positive for coronavirus, his spokesperson had confirmed.
According to a statement issued by the chief minister’s office, CM Murad got tested for COVID-19 after catching a mild fever. “After the test, I went into isolation on doctor’s advice,” said the chief minister.
The second wave of the COVID-19 has claimed several lives of people belonging to various walks of life including, journalists, politicians, and judges, and others.
Several Pakistani politicians including PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif, ANP’s Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, Sindh education minister Saeed Ghani, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, and Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari had tested positive for coronavirus, after which they went into self-isolation and recovered.
PTI Punjab Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Shaheen Raza was the first lawmaker in the country who died due to COVID-19 a few months ago. PTI MPA Mian Jamsheduddin Kakakhel from Nowshera and PML-N MPA Shaukat Manzoor Cheema from Gujranwala also passed away in June after being on the ventilator for a few days.
The total number of coronavirus cases in Pakistan has crossed the grim 400,000 landmarks. According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), Pakistan recorded 2,458 new COVID-19 cases and 67 deaths due to the virus in the last 24 hours.
With the fresh inclusion of the infections in the country, the national tally of cases now currently stands at 400,482 while the death toll has 8,091. A further 2,165 patients are in critical condition while 1,863 patients have recovered from the virus during the last 24 hours.
