The drama unfolded during the Friday morning session when MPA Shaukat Rajput (representing the Bahadurabad/Khalid Maqbool group) stood on a point of order and dropped a bombshell.
He claimed his life was in danger not from political rivals but from members of his own party.
The situation escalated during the session when MPA Rana Shaukat Rajput rose on a point of order and accused his fellow party member, MPA Shariq Jamal, of issuing life threats against him.
He exposed a deep division within the party, prompting the Speaker to summon police officials inside the House.
Shaukat Rajput told the House that he had been threatened with the words, “Come outside so we can see you,” alleging that the warning came from Shariq Jamal, a member of his own party. He demanded that the relevant police station be directed to register his complaint and ensure his security.
“If my safety is not guaranteed, I will have no option but to resign,” Shaukat Rajput declared. “After resigning, I will join the bar and then see who threatens me.”
He further alleged that earlier in the week, armed men had visited his office. According to him, MNA Imran Mehsud arrived at his office on Monday accompanied by armed individuals. Rajput linked that incident to the threat he claimed to have received inside the Assembly.
Highlighting internal party divisions, Rajput stated that he belongs to the Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui group within MQM-P, while the opposing side is affiliated with the former PSP faction, indicating factional tensions within the party ranks.
Sindh Interior Minister Zia Lanjar intervened during the heated exchange, stating that such language and conduct were inappropriate within the Assembly. He emphasized that the Speaker is the custodian of the House and responsible for maintaining order. Lanjar added that if Rajput wished to record his statement before the police, it was his personal choice.
As tensions mounted, the Speaker summoned the concerned Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and Station House Officer (SHO) to the Assembly premises. In a significant move, the Speaker suspended the membership of MQM-P MPA Engineer Usman and barred his entry into the Assembly until he submitted an apology.
The unfolding drama created a tense and chaotic atmosphere in the House, with lawmakers witnessing an unprecedented public airing of intra-party disputes.
However, according to later reports, reconciliation efforts between the two MQM-P members proved successful. Following the settlement, police officials who had been called to the Assembly departed, and the immediate crisis was defused.
The episode has nonetheless highlighted deep-rooted factional differences within MQM-P, raising questions about internal unity within the party in Sindh’s political landscape
