ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader and MNA Chaudhry Moonis Elahi has been named as the next Minister for Water Resources, it emerged on Tuesday.
According to details, the decision was made in the backdrop of a promise by the PTI-led government to their allies, which include the PML-Q, that they will be given charge of a federal ministry.
However, a notification has not yet been issued. Sources have claimed that Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved the appointment of Moonis Elahi as Minister for Water Resources. Talks to give MQM and GDA a federal ministry each, as promised, are also underway, the sources added.
The portfolio for the Ministry of Water Resources was earlier held by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) minister Faisal Vawda. He resigned from the National Assembly in March to cast his vote in the Senate elections.
Moonis is the son of Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi. He was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan as from Constituency NA-69 (Gujrat-II) in by-election held on 14 October 2018.
