Former Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Yousuf recently shared a deeply emotional story about his father’s conversion to Islam. Yousuf, who was known as Yousuf Youhana before embracing Islam in 2005, revealed that his father accepted Islam just 10 days before his passing.
In an inspiring interview with renowned speaker Qasim Ali Shah, Mohammad Yousuf opened up about his personal struggles following his conversion, including facing criticism from both the public and certain social media users, particularly from neighboring countries. Despite the negativity, he emphasized that much of this stems from ignorance, and he remains focused on his faith.
Reflecting on the challenges he faced, Yousuf shared how some people wrongly assumed he converted to Islam for financial or career gain. He countered these misconceptions by pointing out that he had already achieved success as a cricketer before his conversion. “We need to understand that those who are trying to follow the path of Islam are not angels. Mistakes can happen, and no one is perfect,” he said.
Yousuf also revealed that his mother and brothers had embraced Islam, and that his father converted during his first Hajj journey, after being urged by a member of the Tablighi Jamaat. Although initially reluctant, Yousuf’s father eventually recited the Kalma Shahada and became Muslim.
Tragically, just 10 days after his conversion, Yousuf’s father passed away, marking a poignant and bittersweet moment in Yousuf’s life. His father was also unwell at the time of his conversion. Yousuf shared that his family’s journey into Islam has continued, with two of his nieces marrying Hafiz (Quran memorizers) and Ulama (Islamic scholars).
This powerful story illustrates the transformative power of faith, highlighting the deep impact Islam has had on Mohammad Yousuf’s life and his family’s spiritual journey.
