Mobile phone services have been completely shut down in Dalbandin, the headquarters of Chagai District in Balochistan, after the mobile internet was disconnected.
According to journalists in Dalbandin, mobile internet services were shut down across Chagai District after 12 PM on Thursday.
Although there has been no official clarification regarding the suspension of mobile phone services in Dalbandin and other areas of Chagai District, Dr. Mah Rang Baloch, the leader of the Baloch Unity Committee, claims that this move is aimed at thwarting the committee’s gathering.
Mobile phone services in Dalbandin and other areas of Chagai District have been shut down since last night, and there has been no connectivity via mobile phones in Dalbandin.
Similarly, there has been no connectivity on PTCL landlines in Dalbandin, including those in government offices.
When calls were made to the landline numbers of the Deputy Commissioner Chagai’s office and residence, as well as to the Levis Force control room, there was no response.
Dr. Mah Rang Baloch, speaking to the BBC, stated that a similar tactic was used in Gwadar during a Baloch Unity Committee gathering, where both mobile phone services and landlines were shut down.
Dr. Mah Rang Baloch further mentioned that on January 25, 2014, mass graves were discovered for the first time in the Tutak area of Khuzdar District. She stated that a gathering was being held in Dalbandin under the Baloch Unity Committee’s auspices to mark the anniversary of that day, titled the “Baloch Genocide Memorial.”
