The Commissioner of Karachi has issued a notification stabilizing the retail price of milk at Rs220 per liter, aiming to balance consumer affordability with farmers’ costs.
This adjustment includes slight increases for producers and distributors: a Rs5 per liter hike for dairy farmers (reaching Rs 200) and a Rs 3 per liter hike for wholesalers (reaching Rs208).
The Commissioner’s office noted that the previous price adjustment was made on June 13, 2024.

Context and Government Stance:
This regulatory move comes amid long-standing tensions with the Dairy Farmers Association (DFA). In October 2025, the Sindh government rejected the DFA’s demand to raise the retail price significantly to Rs 300 per liter, warning of action against unilateral price increases.
Advisor to the Sindh Government, Sadia Javed, previously stated that while milk prices exceeded Rs200 in many parts of the country, the administration was committed to maintaining the current rate in Karachi.
She also emphasized that any final pricing decision would follow quality checks.
The commissioner’s latest directive ensures regulated milk prices, providing predictability while preventing farmers from implementing unauthorized rate hikes.
