American singer Miley Cyrus has named the person behind her controversial pole dance at an award show, addressing her infamous performance at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards.
Earlier this month, in a conversation with her sister Brandi Cyrus for Spotify’s Billion Club series, Miley revealed to her fans that her mom, Tish Cyrus, was behind that infamous moment.
During the conversation, Miley asked Brandi, “Do you know whose idea that was?” When Brandi correctly guessed the name of their mom, Miley confirmed, saying, “Yup, that was my mom’s idea, so she always lets me take the blame.”
Miley recalled, “When I got in trouble the next day, you know who was nowhere to be found? Tish Cyrus. The thing I remember most about that performance was that it was the first time I ever wore real diamond jewelry on stage.”
She continued, “You guys remember a little old ice cream truck? I remember the diamonds.”
According to a report by Geo News on Saturday, Miley performed her hit song “Party in the USA” at the Teen Choice Awards in 2009 while dancing with a metal pole mounted to an ice cream cart on stage. The performance sparked backlash, as Miley was only 16 at the time.
