HYDERABAD: Police have registered a case against a student residing in a private girls’ hostel in Hyderabad after she allegedly attempted to kill her newborn baby girl after giving birth.
The incident took place in a private hostel located in the Naseem Nagar area of Qasimabad, Hyderabad.
According to police, the matter came to light after a roommate informed the authorities. Acting promptly on the information, police reached the hostel and took both the mother and the injured newborn into custody.
Both were shifted to Civil Hospital Hyderabad for medical treatment and care, where the newborn is currently under treatment.
Police said a case has been registered against the student on the complaint of Assistant Sub-Inspector Jan Muhammad Saand.
Station House Officer Benazir Jamali confirmed the incident, stating that the accused is a student of a medical university. According to preliminary police information, the accused allegedly tried to harm the newborn in various ways after birth.
Police said further investigation into the incident is underway to ascertain complete facts and circumstances surrounding the case.
