Pakistani star Mawra Hocane’s picture has been removed from her hit Bollywood film “Sanam Teri Kasam” following a spat with her co-star Harshvardhan Rane, who said he would not act in a sequel if she were part of it.
Later, director duo Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru also confirmed that Mawra has been dropped from the upcoming sequel to Sanam Teri Kasam.
Earlier, Harshvardhan Rane, who starred opposite Mawra Hocane in Sanam Teri Kasam, said that he would not participate in a potential sequel if there was any chance of the original cast returning. His comments came in response to a social media post by Hocane, in which she criticized India’s May 7 attack on Pakistan, labeling it “cowardly.”
Mawra, who has been vocal during past India-Pakistan conflicts, responded strongly to Rane’s remarks, accusing him of using the situation for publicity. In a pointed message, she wrote:
“I don’t know whether to call this unfortunate, sad, or comical… someone I expected to have basic common sense has risen from deep slumber with a PR strategy. Look around you, look at what’s going on! We could all hear explosions… children in my country died due to an unjustified, cowardly attack; innocent lives are lost. And after multiple attempts to maintain grace and peace, a befitting response by my armed forces has caused frenzy in your country last night.”
Following the public fallout, a new version of the Sanam Teri Kasam poster on Spotify was released—conspicuously without Mawra Hocane’s image.
The move drew criticism online, with many calling it petty and unprofessional. One user wrote, “They wanted to remove Pakistan from the world map and now they’re removing Mawra from a film poster.” Another commented, “Mawra is a bigger star than that guy. No one even knows him.” A third quipped, “Try removing her from the film as well.”
