KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday heard a petition pertaining to lack and increased prices of masks in Karachi after two coronavirus cases were confirmed in Pakistan.
During hearing the plea, the petitioner said that there are no masks available at any pharmacy across the Sindh province, including Karachi.
He said there was a severe shortage of the masks which emerged following the two cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Pakistan.
Judge Muhammad Ali replaying the petitioner remarked, “Who said wearing the mask is compulsory to get safe from coronavirus diseases?”
The judge further asked the lawyer of the applicant whether he not watch the press conference of doctors yesterday, adding that the health experts suggest people adopt other necessary steps.
The judges observed that this new way is being adopted across the city to sell masks by making the people anxious about the diseases.
Earlier, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Health Services Dr Zafar Mirza confirmed a report of the first two cases of coronavirus in Pakistan.
He said that there is no need to panic as things are under control. The sign and symptoms of coronavirus are fever, cough, and sore throat, pain in body, nausea, pneumonia and infection in the lungs. No sign appears in an infected patient in the first five days.
