Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has decided to suspend the provision of official fuel for provincial ministers until the petroleum crisis comes to an end.
The chief minister said the measures were being introduced to cope with economic difficulties arising from tensions and conflict in the region.
Under the decision, the supply of government fuel for provincial ministers has been halted, while petrol and diesel allowances for official vehicles used by senior government officers have been immediately reduced by 50 per cent.
A ban has also been imposed on protocol vehicles accompanying provincial ministers and senior officials.
The chief minister further decided that, for essential security purposes, only one vehicle will be allowed to accompany a provincial minister or senior government official.
In addition, a work-from-home policy has been introduced in government offices, with only essential staff required to attend.
Schools, colleges and universities will remain closed from 10 March to 31 March, although examinations will continue according to schedule. Educational institutions will also be allowed to conduct online classes during this period.
