A 25-year-old resident of Kausar Colony, Bahawalpur, has died after being admitted with symptoms consistent with mpox (formerly known as monkeypox).
Hospital authorities have confirmed the death, but the cause has not yet been officially established.
According to Dr. Abdul Rehman, Medical Superintendent of Bahawal Victoria Hospital, the patient was brought to the hospital late at night by Rescue 1122 in critical condition. Doctors observed symptoms that were clinically consistent with a suspected mpox infection.
The Health Department stated that the patient had been receiving treatment at a private facility for approximately 15 days before being transferred to the hospital.
Hospital officials said blood samples have been sent to a laboratory for definitive testing and medical confirmation.
Authorities noted that screening of the deceased’s family members and other close contacts will begin only if the laboratory results confirm an mpox infection.
Officials also noted that Bahawalpur has already reported six laboratory-confirmed mpox cases, prompting health authorities and medical experts to advise the public to remain vigilant and follow recommended preventive measures.
