RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi police on Sunday claimed to have arrested a man over charges of raping a 17-year-old boy.
According to police, the suspect, identified as Yasir, sexually abused the boy on Saturday in a house within the limits of Westridge Police Station.
Police added that when the victim’s family registered a case at the police station Westridge, a medical examination of the victim was conducted in a hospital.
Later, police have registered a case against the accused by arresting him after the medical report of the boy proved true.
On April 6, Rawalpindi Saddar Division SP Rai Mazhar Iqbal had claimed that the crime rate in the city has declined since the lockdown has been imposed due to the COVID-19.
Rai Mazhar Iqbal said that no crime has been reported in Rawalpindi since 24th March. The crime rate had begun declining after imposing the lockdown across Punjab, he said.
On the other hand, sources said that the crime rate in the city has increased since the lockdown has been imposed due to the COVID-19.
Sources added sexual assault cases jumped to an alarming height in Rawalpindi despite police and Rangers setting up checkpoints amid the coronavirus lockdown.
Locals and reporters blamed that instead of controlling the rising crimes in the city’s police have not only refrained from sharing data but also changed the facts and figures tactfully.
They appealed concerned authorities to take action on the issues so protection of properties and lives of people and the supremacy of law could be ensured.
