The sea along the coastal areas of Makran has turned unusually green, causing serious environmental concerns and difficulties for local communities.
According to the Deputy Director of Environment, large amounts of algae have accumulated in the waters near Gwadar, Pasni, Jiwani, and Ormara, resulting in a dangerous drop in oxygen levels in the sea.
The environmental official said the algae bloom has caused severe damage to marine life, killing dozens of fish.
Moreover, nearly 200 sea snakes, including guitarfish, were found dead along the shore, alarming local fishermen and residents.
The Deputy Director said that the foul smell and decay from the algae are creating hardships for people living in coastal areas.
He explained that while algae blooms are a natural phenomenon, their immediate effects can be hazardous.
Authorities have urged fishermen to exercise caution while fishing and warned that the situation, though expected to normalize in a few days, still poses risks. For now, precautions are essential to avoid further harm to both humans and marine life.
