A massive fire broke out at a factory in the Sher Shah SITE industrial area of Karachi, prompting an immediate response from fire brigades across the city.
According to fire officials, the blaze has been classified as a third-degree fire, indicating its severity. Additional fire tenders and snorkels were dispatched to the scene as efforts intensified to bring the flames under control.
A fire officer said more vehicles had been called in to prevent the fire from spreading, while teams worked continuously to contain the situation.
Inspector General of Sindh Police, Ghulam Nabi Memon, directed police to reach the site without delay and secure the surrounding area. He also ordered that routes be kept clear to ensure unhindered access for fire and rescue teams.
A rescue spokesperson stated that chemicals used for cloth dyeing were stored inside the factory, raising concerns about the intensity of the blaze. More than eight fire engines were reported to be engaged in firefighting operations.
Meanwhile, the Sindh Chief Minister took notice of the incident and sought a detailed report. He instructed authorities to ensure immediate medical assistance for any injured persons and to accelerate the rescue operation.
The chief minister also directed strict enforcement of fire safety protocols in industrial units, particularly those handling chemical materials. He ordered an audit of hazardous chemicals stored in factories across the province and called for proper documentation of their storage and usage.
He emphasised that there would be no compromise on the safety of workers and the public, and that urgent measures must be taken to strengthen industrial safety standards.
