Former member of the National Assembly Mahmood Moulvi has expressed concern over the rising prices of sugar.
In a press statement, the former member of the National Assembly said that sugar prices have become uncontrollable due to the collusion of hoarders, stockists and middlemen.
He said that despite the abundant production of sugar in the country, the people are being forced to buy expensive sugar, the main reason for which is to create artificial scarcity by storing sugar in warehouses.
Mahmood Moulvi said that these elements are blocking the sugar reserves to trap the people in the trap of illegal profiteering, while the fact is that the export of sugar is not a problem, but hoarding is the cause of the real crisis.
He said that the government and the concerned agencies should conduct a detailed review of the stock, production and delivery orders of the sugar mills so that this crisis can be eliminated from the root.
He added that if the process of distribution and delivery of sugar is transparently monitored, there will be no need to import sugar in the country.
He demanded the government to take immediate action against hoarders so that people get cheap and abundant food.
