ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has warned that the PTI-led federal government would take action against madrassahs if their students were brought to the protest in Islamabad.
“If the Madrassahs children were brought to the protest, then the law would swing into action,” the interior minister said while addressing a press conference in Islamabad today (Monday).
The warning was directed at Maulana Fazlur Rehman, whose party is often accused of bringing Madrassahs students to the rallies. The Pakistan Democratic Movement, an alliance of 11 opposition parties, will hold a demonstration outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) office in Islamabad tomorrow (Tuesday).
Sheikh Rashid further said that the government has decided to give free hand to opposition to organize a rally in the Red Zone, but nobody will be allowed to take law into hands.
“The election commission is a constitutional institution and its harassment can’t be allowed,” Rasheed said, adding, “They didn’t seek permission from us, neither did we give them. Nevertheless, we have taken the decision to give them a free hand.”
Referring to PTI’s foreign funding case, the Minister said the party has submitted record of 40,000 transactions to the ECP, but the opposition is unable to produce record of just 4,000 people from whom it has received foreign funding.
