The Kurram Jirga, scheduled for today, will be led by Commissioner Kohat. The event will include members of the Peace Committee from Lower Kurram, as well as the Chief Secretary, IG, and representatives from law enforcement agencies.
Those who signed the Kurram Peace Agreement will also be part of the Jirga. The primary focus will be to foster the obligations of the signatories of the peace agreement, continue the demolition of bunkers, and ensure the submission of arms by the involved parties.
On Friday, a jirga was held at Thana Baizai in Malakand to protest against the increasing drug trade in the area. The jirga, attended by representatives from all political parties, lawyers, councillors, civil society members, and others, called for immediate action from the government and police to curb the menace.
Led by Tehsil Chairman Afzal Hussain, ANP leader Izharullah Khan, and JI leader Noorullah, the participants marched from Thana Bazaar to the Levies post, demanding an operation against drug dealers.
The speakers expressed concerns over the rampant sale of drugs like ice and hashish and urged the police to take action. They also called for an operation by the Counter-Terrorism Department, a reduction in unnecessary security for political figures, and a complete replacement of Levies with police personnel.
