PESHAWAR: The members of the provincial cabinet have called on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mehmood Khan and expressed satisfaction over awarding tickets to party workers to contest Senate polls.
As per details, the cabinet members including Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Akbar Ayub, Shaukat Yousafzai, Kamran Bangash, Ziaullah Bangash and Riaz Khan expressed confidence in the leadership of PM Imran and lauded the distribution of tickets on a merit basis.
On this occasion, KP CM Mehmood Khan said the prime minister had desired that there should be no vote-buying and selling in the Senate elections and parliamentarians should have the courage to lend their support.
He said those claiming to resign from assemblies should consider their decision as it would yield no results, adding that Senate elections would be held in March and further strengthen democracy.
CM Mehmood said, “Distribution of tickets is proof that PTI is a democratic party that believes in the supremacy of merit. We fully support the stance of Prime Minister to hold senate elections through show-of-hands as it would help strengthen democracy and democratic institutions in the country,” he added.
Mehmood Khan said that the cabinet is opposing the show-of-hands in senate elections because they intend to continue corruption on matters of national interest. Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had announced to hold the election for Senate on March 3, 2021.
The polls will be held on 48 seats of the Upper House. The candidates can submit their nomination papers from February 12-13 while the nominated candidates will be announced on Sunday, February 14.
The scrutiny of nomination papers will be held from February 15-16. The appeals against acceptance or rejection of nominations will be received on 17 and 18th February. These appeals will be disposed of by the tribunal on the 19th and 20th of this month.
The final list of the contestant will be issued later on February 21, while the candidates can withdraw their nomination papers on February 22. The polling will be held on 3rd March from 9 AM to 5 PM in the Parliament House and all provincial assemblies without any break.
