Defense Minister Khawaja Asif on Saturday said that elements linked to Imran Khan and former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt-Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed are still present within the system and continue to influence the country’s situation, adding that May 9 mayhem was a joint venture of former spymaster and PTI founder.
While talking to the media in Sialkot, Khawaja Asif said that Faiz Hameed was the in-charge of the project to bring the founder of PTI to power. When Faiz Hameed was Corps Commander Peshawar, he strengthened Imran Khan’s politics. Through rigging, under Faiz Hameed’s supervision, the PTI founder was brought into power, and other personalities also worked on this project.
He said that for four years the PTI founder played havoc with the country, and Faiz Hameed and the PTI founder are responsible for it.
The public knows how much the PTI founder delivered. During his tenure, parliament was turned into a subsidiary of the ISI. Faiz Hameed’s project gradually began to be exposed. May 9 was staged for the PTI founder, and Faiz’s mind was behind it; the planning was his.
Khawaja Asif said that all opponents were jailed through Faiz Hameed. Faiz Hameed kept playing a very dangerous game with the country, and he was behind all conspiracies.
The destruction of May 9 was also the work of Faiz Hameed and the PTI founder. Had the nexus between Faiz and the PTI founder continued, it is hard to imagine how much damage would have been done. These people have acted with hostility toward Pakistan and must be taken to task.
He said accountability will also be carried out for those hiding within the bureaucracy and other institutions. The army itself tried Faiz Hameed, and he was convicted and sentenced after a trial lasting 15 months.
